Colombian cinema is evolving, as evidenced by the release of a drama with thriller and action elements titled “Uno,” the debut feature by Paisa filmmaker Julio César, filmed in Guatapé and other locations in Antioquia. It is a stark and realistic portrait of contemporary Colombia, where ambition and corruption put the lives of many at risk. It premieres on November 21st, distributed by Cineplex.
Julio César makes his directorial debut with “Uno” and about the making of the film he tells Caracol Radio, “I stayed in a hotel on the edge of the Guatapé dam and for several days I spent thinking about a story to make my first film and I found in a personal situation, something I wanted to tell, so what I was feeling I turned into a family tragedy led by a woman, who is looking for answers as to why and who did that harm to her family.”
In the story, Marcela Mar plays Esmeralda and about her role she adds, “She is a character with a lot of substance, to whom so many things happen, who carries the main action, it was a very rich character to interpret, I prepared this character with Victoria Hernández and they gave me the time to build Esmeralda, I am curious and I like to search for paths and ask myself questions and work with time, that is what the production gives me.”
In the cast that accompanies Marcela Mar we find Juan Pablo Urrego, Rachel Blanchard and James Gilbert, “Uno” was filmed in several locations in Antioquia and had the sound design in charge of
Matt Waters, renowned sound designer for the series “Game of Thrones.” The film premieres on November 21st through Cineplex.
