Ted Henley lives with his father, John, in a remote motel nestled in the western mountains of the United States. Since Ted's mother abandoned them, John has become a shadow of himself, unable to properly care for his son. Spending the sweltering summer of 1989 hunting vermin, Ted befriends a mysterious stranger. As their bond grows, a dark side begins to emerge in the boy’s mind.
